Introducing 'scalum': thyssenkrupp nucera's Innovative Green Hydrogen Solution Revolutionizing Scalable Energy Production
Leading electrolysis technology provider, thyssenkrupp nucera, has launched a new product, "scalum," an innovative 20 MW module for producing green hydrogen. The announcement came during the prestigious international industry trade fair, "World Hydrogen Summit 2023," held in Rotterdam.
Named with a nod to its scalability and precision, "scalum" represents a significant leap in the production of carbon-free hydrogen through highly efficient alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) modules. The name derives from the term "scale", emphasizing the module's ability to interconnect multiple modules to generate high plant capacities.
As the industry moves towards decarbonization, large-scale water electrolysis plants using renewable energy to produce green hydrogen will play a vital role in minimizing the industry's carbon footprint.
thyssenkrupp nucera is globally recognized as one of the few suppliers capable of offering water electrolysis technology in the gigawatt power range. The company has already sold more than 2.5 gigawatts of capacity to produce hydrogen using renewable energy to clients worldwide.
Having the longest track record in green hydrogen production technology, the AWE technology stands as a testament to thyssenkrupp nucera's expertise. Building on several decades of experience in chlor-alkali electrolysis technology, "scalum" promises low investment costs and proven cell design with a long runtime and high performance.
Dr. Christoph Noeres, Head of Green Hydrogen at thyssenkrupp nucera, emphasized the significance of the new product. “Our equipment must guarantee a high degree of scalability and availability to reliably represent capacities to produce green hydrogen on a scale of several hundred megawatts or even gigawatts of power. Our product name ‘scalum’ reflects this quality promise that we make to our customers," he said.
"scalum" also marks the beginning of a new naming system for the AWE product family within thyssenkrupp nucera’s hydrogen division. This universally meaningful name aims to boost brand recognition and clearly express the product’s capabilities to customers.
Katharina Immoor, thyssenkrupp nucera’s Head of Communication & ESG, echoed the significance of the product launch and its impact on the company's brand identity. “Even in our technically oriented B2B market, we have to deal with the increasing importance of consistent brand experiences. That’s why we are continuously developing our brand identity, which includes the development of meaningful product names," Immoor said.
This product launch signifies the next step in the long-term development of the thyssenkrupp nucera brand. Last year, the company unveiled its new brand identity symbolizing a new era of innovation, transformation, and green energy - a significant contribution to climate neutrality. With "scalum," thyssenkrupp nucera continues to reinforce its commitment to the green energy revolution.
