Green hydrogen producer Lhyfe, onshore wind developer OX2, and innovative green fertilizer firm Velarion are teaming up to establish one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen-based industrial clusters in Sweden's Ånge municipality. This ambitious project will harness wind power to produce green hydrogen, which will then be used to manufacture carbon-neutral fertilizers.

The cluster will be powered by a wind farm developed by OX2, with an expected annual production capacity of 1.4 TWh. This green electricity will drive a 300 MW electrolyzer, built by Lhyfe, capable of producing up to 100 tons of green hydrogen daily.

Velarion, a key player in the initiative, plans to construct one of the world's first carbon-neutral fertilizer plants within this cluster. The facility will utilize green hydrogen to produce ammonia, significantly cutting carbon emissions in the fertilizer industry.

Anders Nilsson, head of onshore wind at OX2, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "We are excited about the potential of this project, which will utilize electricity from the wind farm Marktjärn to power a green industrial cluster, enabling sustainable local industry and enhancing the attractiveness for further industrial establishments in Ånge."

The project is now in its conceptual phase, with further development contingent on feasibility studies, permitting, and financial investment decisions, as outlined in a joint press release from Lhyfe and OX2.

Lhyfe, a French company, previously made headlines by building the world’s first large-scale wind-powered green hydrogen plant in 2021. Meanwhile, OX2 is known for its extensive work in renewable energy across 11 European markets and Australia. Velarion Group, focusing on green urea and ammonia, is at the forefront of creating sustainable alternatives to traditional fertilizers, helping to reduce agriculture's carbon footprint.
